Eventful Saturday

Servus!

Our plan for Saturday was to visit the Köln Fernsehnturm Colonius first and after that climb the Dom. Well, nothing went according to our plan....

We thought that we should take the tram 1 to get to the Colonius, but it was totally wrong :D we ended up in the "wrong side" of Köln (eastern side of Rhein). We noticed that we were going to the wrong way when we saw the Colonius exactly in the opposite direction. During the tram ride we were wondering about all the people in the street wearing similar t-shirts. The streets were blocked by the police and there were lots of cars stuck in the traffic. We got off the tram at Deutzer Freiheit and all the people with the t-shirts were walking by the stop. So we went to a bridge right next to the stop to see what is going on.

There were so many people and they were having so much fun! Everyone was laughing, dancing and shouting. There were also trucks that played music. We didn't quite find out what it was about, but some guy tried to explain it to us. We figured out that it had something to do with securing the education and employment of young people. The guy also told us that the people were walking to Lanxess Arena to have a huge party! He even tried to sell us his tickets to the event :D

After watching them a while we decided to go to the Dom. When we got there, we noticed that there was some sort of event going on and that the tower isn't open for sightseeing..:( Luckily we still got to go inside and walked around the church. It was huge and really beautiful!

Then we wanted to go to the Colonius tower. We checked from the Internet now again that where we need to go and this time we got it right. We arrived near to the Colonius and walked the rest of the way. We were a bit amazed that there were no signs or other guidance to get there, but we found it still.

We got to the tower and there was nobody....We headed straight to the door and tried to get in, but a man stood on the way and didn't let us in. He asked where are we going and we told that of course to the observation deck! We didn't get in because....

FAIL :D:D
Sooo we just left....we felt so stupid :D then for some reason we decided to walk to another U-bahn stop and not the one where we came from. You can guess how it ended...We got lost just a bit :) We walked around without knowing the direction, but after some time we found a U-bahn stop. It turned out that we were really close, only two stops from Rudolfplatz.
We got to Rudolfplatz and went to Lidl to buy bread.

A bag full of bread :D
In the evening we went to Chlodwigplatz to Pauline and Charlotte's place. We had fun playing games and just chilling! At some point we decided to head to a bar at Zülpicher Platz. Again what a fun night :)

Next post is about something sporty and challenging...
In the end our tradition, beauty picture :D

Drachenfels

Servus!

On Fridays we have no school, so we wanted to do something else than just stay home for the whole day. That is why we decided to go to Drachenfels! Actually our school arranged a trip there couple of weeks ago, but we missed it...We were in Amsterdam the day before (actually we arrived home at 6 am), so we were too tired to go there:(  Drachenfels is a mountain in Bonn, which is a city near Köln.

We asked the other girls to come with us, because we weren't the only ones too tired when the school's trip was arranged :D Irina wanted also to see the Drachenfels so she came with us :) We took a train from the Köln Hbf at 12.38. The journey took about 40 minutes. We arrived to a small town called Königswinter and we had no idea where to go..:D Luckily the Drachenfels was really near to the train station, only 5 minutes walk, so we didn't get lost :)

Almost there..:)

Beautiful typical German houses :)

Walking route to the top

We saw the walking route to the top and decided to take the train instead :D The trip back and forth was 10 €. We were really excited about the train and it was fun! In the halfway point on the way to the top there is the Drachenfels castle (Schloss Drachenburg), but we decided to go up first.

Lobby and a small cafeteria in the ticket office

The beautiful, old-fashioned train

The journey up took like 10 minutes. When we got there we were so amazed about the view. It was so beautiful! Words cannot describe and pictures are not enough, it was amazing!!

Rhein

In the horizon is Köln and we could even see the Dom!

There was also a restaurant

After spending a while enjoying the view we took the train and went to see the castle. The ticket inside the castle was 4 € for students, not that bad. The castle was also really beautiful! A baron had built it for himself between 1882-1884. The castle has been restored to its original conditions in 2011.

Like a fairy tale castle

After visiting the castle we were kinda tired and wanted to head home. We took the train back down and walked to the Königswinter train station.

We made it to the first row, next to the driver!

There was a small sheep right next to the track and it just laid there even though the train passed it..

Waiting for the train :)
We spend the evening just hanging at our place and relaxing.
Next post is about our eventful Saturday!

International Speakdating and Food Fair

Hallo!

Did you see the awesome cooking picture in couple posts ago? It was about cooking rice porridge but it did not go like in the movies.. :D
So, Sunday was about baking for the Tuesday's event called International Speakdating and Food Fair! The event was arranged for Erasmus and other exchange students to learn new languages and taste food from all over the world :) We decided to cook for the event Karelian pies and egg-butter XD (munavoi). It was quite a challenge for us since neither of us had made them before.. But after all, we managed to do them and they tasted really good!

This is the starting situation.. :D
Oops..
We started with cooking the rice porridge. As you can see, we succeeded well. Haha :D
Then we needed to make the dough. It contains rye and wheat flour, oil, salt and water. We did it exactly according to the instructions but it was horrible!! It was like glue or something.. So we added looots of flour to make it somehow thicker and easier to handle. Eventually we succeeded and started to create the actual pies!

Maiju's task was to create tiny balls from the dough
Then Jenna rolled them with a DRINKING GLASS.... :D:D

Before adding the porridge!
Then the next step was to start filling them with the rice porridge and shape them to look like Karelian pies. At first they were not so beautiful...

The first one by Jenna! :'D :D:D:D

After a while of practicing we became better!

Not so clean anymore..

They are ready!! And looked like they should look like!

And tasted good as well :))
On Tuesday was the actual event! We took our 30 pies and egg-butter there. The event was at our school: there were so many people and lots of different food!
At first the winners of Crazy 88 were announced: we became second. We were so disappointed because the third team got 405 points, we got 830 and the winners got 836. So close but so far... Hmm...

Then the Speakdating- part started! We were divided into tables according to what is our mother tongue. And the native speakers needed to teach the others their own language. There was possible to learn Finnish, Italian, Malaysian, French, Turkish, English... Couple of girls sat to our table and we taught them how to greet and represent yourself in Finnish :) Haha and we also taught them the word itkupotkuraivari :D Normal for us but the girls were pretty confused...

Then the best part: food!!

Salty..

And the sweet ones :)

Everything we ate was so good! And apparently people liked our Karelian pies because they ended really fast and many people told us that they were good! :)
We spent at the school's cafeteria couple hours eating and chatting with our friends :) Then we decided to go to Das Ding! It is a club in Zülpicher Platz. The entrance fee was 5,50 € but during 21-23 you could drink as much you like. Though the only choice was vodka-red bull. You just took your empty glass to the bar and bartender gave you a new one.. Just wondering how on earth they make profit..? Nobody was really drinking after 23. Somewhere after midnight we came home to sleep because we had classes in the morning. What a fun evening :)

Next post will be about our trip to Drachenfels!
This week's beauty picture is a little bit older! :D
