Relaxed Sunday in Düsseldorf

Hallo!

Last Sunday we wanted to do something else than just lay on the sofa for the whole day. So we got an idea to go and spend the day in Düsseldorf! Our visit had actually no actual reason, we just wanted to go and see the city and walk around. It is easy to go to Düsseldorf since we can travel for free and the journey takes only 30 minutes. We left there 14.30 and Christina joined us :)
We arrived there and decided to go to Altstadt (Old Town) since we have already seen the city centre before and since it was Sunday, no stores were open.

During the day we walked several kilometers just enjoying the sunshine and the relaxed feeling! It is funny how the culture is different from Finland. Here, on Sundays, people spend the day sitting in cafes, parks, next to Rhein river and meeting friends. We talked that if everything was closed on Sundays in Finland, everybody would just stay home and watch tv :D

Maiju the Teletappi :'D Tiivi Taavi...

In the evening we decided to go and eat dinner! We found a nice chinese restaurant and stayed there. :) Maiju ate chicken and vegetables in a sweet&sour sauce (I deleted the picture of it accidentally :'() and Jenna ate noodles with chicken and vegetables. So delicious!! And again, the prices were not bad. It was 8,50 each.

Halloween

Servus!

Halloween here in Germany is totally a different case than in Finland. In Finland it is not that much celebrated, but here really many dresses up and goes to party on Friday 31.10! We also wanted to experience that because in Finland it is not possible. In every store you can find costumes, candies and also food related to Halloween :D below couple pictures from Lidl..

SO ugly :DD

On Friday we went to Köln's biggest costume shop in order to find something to wear in the evening :) The place was called Deiters shop and it was huge! And crowded.. Everyone desperately trying to find something on the last minute. You could find there all kinds of costumes you can ever imagine, but also different side stuff, such as decorations and accessories. For example we found ugly bloody legs, spiders, brains, stupid sunglasses... We were a bit boring and bought nothing that special: Maiju bought cat ears and Jenna bunny ears and a tail :D

In the evening Maiju went to see In Flames!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was AWESOME. <3

And Jenna went Yvonne and Christina's place with few girls to start the evening. Yvonne had made us some tasty snacks and punch! We had a lot of fun! Later in the evening some other people joined us from the dorms and then we all left for an Irish pub!We had some difficulties finding the place and some of us got bored and left somewhere else :D but finally we found the place and it was really nice. The whole place was decorated with Halloween stuff and it was full of people. Then we also went to some other bars and walked around the city. All in all it was a nice Halloween!

Movie night

Hallo!

Last week's Tuesday we wanted to something different and decided to go to the movies! It wasn't so easy as in Finland, since here almost all the movies are spoken in German and not in English as in Finland. Luckily we managed to find one movie on that day that was spoken in English with German subtitles!
The movie was played in movie theater called Metropolis at Ebertplatz. We needed to take the tram there and it was about 10 minutes ride from Rudolfplatz. The theater was located right next to the tram stop at Ebertplatz. We didn't know what to expect from the theater, we thought that it could either be really new and modern or then old and horrible :D It turned out that it was neither of them. Actually the theater was really nice, it was a bit old-fashioned, but still it had a great atmosphere.

First we needed to buy the tickets and they weren't that expensive, only 6 €. Then of course we wanted some snacks! The assortment was very different compared to Finland. They sold sweet and salty popcorn, some candy, beer, soft drinks and nachos.

After buying all the necessary stuff ;D we tried to find the room where they play the movie, we found it and tried to go in but we weren't allowed to..:/ We weren't even allowed to wait in front of the door, everybody needed to wait in the lobby. Just before going inside we noticed that the tickets weren't for a specific seat, but everybody could sit where they wanted to!

The worker started to let us in and of course he checked the tickets, but not like they do in Finland with the QR reader...He just ripped a part of the ticket away :D Then we walked into the room and because we didn't have specific seats of course we wanted to be there first. So Jenna yelled to Maiju "Let's go to the upper row so we can see! " and Maiju replied that yes sure! Well, we walked in and started laughing.....there was no upper row, all the seats were on the same level :D We thought that it would be hard to see the movie, but actually it wasn't. The screen was so high that even we could see from the middle. The seats weren't actual seats...you needed to "open" the seat before sitting down. The biggest difference and the thing we missed the most was that there were no cup holders!

The movie was called Gone Girl and actually it was Finnkino's movie of the month in October. It has also received 5 stars from the reviews. And it was worth every star! Even thought it lasted 2,5 hours, it wasn't boring at all: actually it was very interesting and intense, It was a thriller, but not scary except in one point where Jenna needed to close her eyes...:D:D

After the movie we went straight home to sleep because it was already over midnight. The original version of the movie was played only at 21.30, the German versions were played many times during the day..

Bonn

Hallo!

Last Sunday we went to visit the city Bonn that is located near Köln. We took the tram 16 from Chlodwigplatz and the journey lasted about 40 minutes to Bonn Hauptbahnhof. Even though the journey was a bit long, it went by fast looking at the different view from the window! It was nice that we got to see a another parts of Köln and notice how versatile the city can be.  After 15 minutes sitting in the tram we were already in a totally different landscape, we saw countryside, suburbs and a huge chemical factory or facility..

We arrived to Bonn and the first thing we wanted to do was get something to eat :D:D but still we decided to first look at the sight seeings and save the eating for later. First we found an antique market with lots of people selling nice things. 

After wandering around for a while and looking at all the nice things we came to the Bonn Minster church (Bonn Münster), which was really beautiful. There was also a statue of Beethoven next to the church.

Then we walked to the Bonn Rathaus (city hall). First we almost didn't find it, but then we realized that we had been standing in front of it the whole time......:D:D

The next thing to see was Beethoven's house! We wanted to go and see it, but didn't want to pay the fee to go inside the museum. Still it was nice to check out the house. 

The last thing we wanted to see in Bonn was the University Campus. We had seen pictures of it from our friends who had visited Bonn before, so we also wanted to go there.

Then finally we could go and get something to eat! :D We just walked around and looked for a nice-looking restaurant and actually found one quite fast. It was an Italian restaurant so we both decided to eat pasta! The place was really comfy, the food was amazing and the prices were okay also! Altogether food and drinks for both cost 20 €. Only minus was that the waiter was really rude to Maiju when paying the food. Maiju was trying to pay first with a debit card and then with a credit card and neither of them worked. We think it was because the restaurant was in the basement. But the waiter just blamed and said that "you don't have any money!". Luckily Maiju had cash to pay the food, so we didn't have to stay and do the dishes...:D:D:D

Halloween decorations already!

After eating we took the tram home. We heard during the journey that in Köln Hbf there was a situation going on: A nazi group had gathered there to demonstrate against immigrants and black people. All the trains were late and it was said that it is not safe to go there. We luckily took the tram so we could stay at Barbarossaplatz (no need to go to Hbf). And there you didn't notice anything about the situation :) So we got home safe!
